Grand Junction authorities are investigating a shooting incident in which one person was killed.

Early Morning Shooting In Grand Junction

While a lot of people in Grand Junction were on their way to work Monday morning there was a shooting incident that happened at about 7:30 in the parking lot of the 29 Mile Apartments. The apartment complex is located at 2915 Orchard Avenue.

Grand Junction Shooting Leaves One Person Dead

According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the scene and found an adult male with a gunshot wound. The injured person was treated by paramedics but died at the scene. A second person was detained and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Shelter-In-Place At Bookcliff Middle School

Investigators were working to determine the circumstances of the shooting, but believe this was strictly an isolated incident. As a precaution, Bookcliff Middle School was placed into a shelter-in-place as students were immediately ushered inside for their safety. The shelter-in-place was lifted a short time later. No students were involved in the incident, but parents were urged to talk to their children and use counseling resources offered by District 51.
