Grand Junction Colorado

Grand Junction, Colorado is the largest town on Colorado’s Western Slope. George Addison Crawford founded Grand Junction on July 22, 1882. The name of the town came from the confluence of the Colorado (formerly Grand) and Gunnison Rivers. In 1882, Crawford started a vineyard in the Palisade area. Now, Grand Junction is known as Colorado’s wine country.

Grand Junction is considered the high desert, with cold-dry winters and hot dry summers. Winters are typically mild with temperatures ranging from frigid single-digits to please 50-degree days. While Grand Junction will see snow, accumulation is minimal.

Summers in Grand Junction can be hot averaging close to 65 days of temperatures at or above 90-degrees. Triple-digit temperatures can average close to 7 a year. The area receives little precipitation during the summer months.

Grand Junction is nestled in a valley between the Grand Mesa and the Colorado National Monument. In the downtown area, you’ll find quaint specialty shops, one-of-a-kind restaurants, theaters, and more.

Grand Junction is known for its proximity to some of the world’s best mountain biking trails. Hundreds of miles of MTB trails stitch their way through the Grand Valley. Other area activities include hiking, fishing, floating the Colorado River await adventurers from around the globe.

The campus of Colorado Mesa University, a four-year university, sprawls on the north side of the city. The CMU Mavericks utilize the nearby Stocker Stadium for its athletics. Minor League Baseball’s Grand Junction Rockies makes Suplizio Field home.
