Things You Should Never Say to a Radio DJ
As a DJ we've all heard these, and it's time to put it to an end. Tomorrow is National DJ Day and instead of making a list of things I'd like as a DJ (like a MacBook Pro) I figured it's time to enlighten you.You should never, ever say these things to a radio DJ.
Don't say this:
You're on the radio? Oh it must be so fun to only go to work for four hours.
Here's why:
I don't just come to work when I'm at the on air. I'm there way before, and way after my on air shift. Four hours? Pshhh. I'm at work for three times as long, more like twelve hours.
Don't say this:
It must be nice to get free tickets to everything.
Here's why:
My life isn't full of freebies, despite what you think. Don't assume I get everything for free. I have to pay for stuff too.
Don't say this:
Being a DJ must be the funniest and easiest job ever.
Here's why:
It is fun, but it's a lot of work. I got like 10 different job titles, 20 deadlines to meet and 30 tabs open on my computer at all times.
Don't say this:
You must be making bank as a radio DJ.
Here's why:
Oh yeah, I make it rain cash money wherever I go and I drive a Ferrari. (Not really though.)
Don't say this:
Radio is for poor people.
Here's why:
I just told you I work for a radio station and that's what you have to say? Rude. Radio isn't just anybody -- it's for everybody. Duh.
