Each week I will search for a new and unique beauty idea on Pinterest and try it out.  Then I will let you know if it's a Beauty "Big Hit" -- or a Beauty "Bust".

This Week's Pin: Using Coconut Oil as a deep conditioning mask.

The Claim: Using Coconut Oil on your hair as a deep conditioning mask will repair heat damage as well as environmental damage to hair, making it softer, stronger and healthier.

Items needed:

*Coconut Oil (can be found in the baking aisle at the supermarket, near the Crisco tubs)

*Shower cap or saran wrap

*hair dryer (optional)

Directions:  Scoop out a handful of organic virgin coconut oil. ( My hair is very thick and long so my scoop had to be extra big.)

The oil will begin to melt at the touch of your skin, it turns to liquid almost immediately.

Flip your head upside down and slowly spread the oil through your hair. Saturate your hair completely, focusing on areas that are dry. Once your hair is soaked with oil, twist your hair into a bun or ponytail. You can clip it in place by grabbing some hair from your scalp and part of the bun, or use a hair tie to keep it in place. Cover your hair with a shower cap.

You can choose to apply heat or not. Applying heat will open the cuticle of each strand so the coconut oil can penetrate the core faster. Leave the coconut oil on your hair for at least 30 minutes without heat, or 15 minutes with heat. I chose to use the "no heat method" and just left it on my hair overnight.

Once your time is up, wash and condition your hair as you normally would. You may need to wash your hair twice to rinse away all of the oil. Style your hair as usual.

The Results: The next morning I climbed in the shower and -- forgetting what the directions had said -- only RINSED my hair out, instead of washing it.  You should be aware that coconut oil does NOT just rinse out, and my hair was greasy feeling the whole day until I reread the directions, hopped back in the shower and washed it, then applied my usual conditioner.

After I dried and styled it, I was pleasantly surprised to find that my hair felt baby soft, more so than when I used my regular conditioner alone.  Also, because my hair is naturally curly, I struggle a lot with frizziness, especially with humid weather.  My curls end up looking crazy and I can sometimes resemble an electrocuted poodle.  But after using the coconut oil treatment, my hair was smooth and my curls were well defined.

I'm a believer!

The Verdict: The Coconut Oil Hair Treatment is a Beauty "Big Hit"!
