Fourth of July Parade in Downtown Grand Junction Canceled
The Fourth of July parade that takes place every year in downtown Grand Junction has been canceled.
The Fourth of July parade usually happens every year in downtown Grand Junction. The streets are lined with kids, parents, and lots of patriotic people while cars, trucks, and floats drive down Main Street during the parade. We look forward to being a part of the parade every year and decking out our station vehicles in all things red, white, and blue.
The Fourth of July parade in downtown Grand Junction will be different this year, much like many other things this year. According to downtown Grand Junction, unfortunately, the Fourth of July parade has been canceled.
Downtown Grand Junction is disappointed that the parade had to be canceled, which was scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 4. According to downtown Grand Junction, they had to cancel because of circumstances beyond their control:
While Mesa County is transitioning to Reopening Phase 2 of managing the COVID-19 outbreak, large events, and mass gatherings that involve more than 50 people and have a likelihood of attracting visitors from outside the local community shall remain closed.
The Fourth of July parade always has more than 50 people in attendance and does attract people from outside of our community, which is why it's been canceled. Downtown Grand Junction says they're looking forward to bringing the Fourth of July parade back next year. They also stated that they're very thankful for all the support from the community 'for the longstanding and beloved celebration.'
It's sad to see another event get canceled, but as things change, we must adapt and do what we can to stay safe. Maybe next year's Fourth of July parade will be twice as big.
