Colorado health officials say they're working closely with federal officials to determine if a chemical found in weed vape products are responsible for the recent lung illness in the Centennial State.

A health department official said that the chemical derived from vitamin E acetate was found in nearly "all cannabis samples from patients that fell ill in New York."

Michelle Francl, a chemistry professor at Bryn Mawr College told The Denver Post that Vitamin E is basically grease. She went on to say that once it's heated up "you're breathing in who-knows-what."

Oregon health officials said Wednesday that an Oregon man died from "severe respiratory illness" in July. After an investigation, they found that the man used e-cigarette containing marijuana oil.

Colorado health officials are working vigorously with federal health officials to determine the cause of the recent spread of lung sickness.
