While it should come as no big surprise, we can officially put a parade cancellation on the list of events that are not happening in Grand Junction this fall.

The annual Veterans Day parade in Grand Junction has been canceled due to "limitations imposed by the current health crisis." It is definitely a disappointment to get news that this downtown Grand Junction parade, which, traditionally has been a fantastic way to honor our local veterans, won't be happening.

Since we won't be attending the parade this year, everyone is encouraged to honor veterans in other ways by visiting local cemeteries. One option is to attend the Veterans Day ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Cemetary on Riverside Parkway. Attendees, of course, are encouraged to attend responsibly.

The Veterans Committee of the Western Slope has also announced there will be a "virtual parade' to honor veterans during the month of November and those details are still to come.

With that being said, let me just say to all of our veterans how grateful we are for your service to our country and for fighting to protect and defend our freedom. We may not be having a veterans parade in Grand Junction this year, but you are the real heroes in our world today and we will never forget your service and your sacrifice.
