This Week You Have to Be Careful to Not Start a Wildfire in Grand Junction
Just last year we had some very quick spreading wildfires across the state of Colorado including the Pine Gulch Fire that was just north of us here in Grand Junction. We also had the largest wildfire in the state's history last year with the Cameron Creek Fire that took place over on the front range. But the last thing we want is to see a repeat of the wildfires from last year. This is why this week you must be extra careful with critical fire weather conditions across most of Western Colorado.
I guess this shouldn't come as a big shock as temperatures around Western Colorado have become extreme lately. For the rest of this work week, we will be into the 90s, which means very dry and hot conditions. This also means that all it would take is one little spark and we could be dealing with another large wildfire, that we really don't need right now or ever.
Here Are Some Fire Precautions That Were Sent Our Way by the Mesa County Sheriff's Office
No one wants to see Colorado have wildfires like last year, we don't want any at all. So our local Sheriff's office had these tips to make sure you don't start a fire.
- Dispose of cigarettes properly
- Never leave a fire unattended
- Extinguish fire pits and campfires so they are cold to the touch.
- Hauling a trailer? Check for dragging chains.
If You Start a Fire Even If You Don't Mean To, It Could Cost You Millions
Many people don't realize that if you cause a wildfire you are most likely going to have to pay for all the damages, yes which means potentially millions of dollars. Don't assume your fire is out, triple check to make sure there is zero potential for a fire to get started.
