There are so many things to enjoy when you head downtown. Many people from everywhere come to Grand Junction to enjoy what we have to offer. The cost of parking downtown, however, may be a bit much for some to handle.

I love using the word study. It seems that every time there is a study done, there is a change that comes along with it. That is exactly what could happen this time. The Grand Junction Downtown Authority conducted a study on parking in Grand Junction and the cost of doing so.

Right now, parking downtown is relatively inexpensive, at 50 cents per hour while long-term parking ranges from 10 cents per hour to 90 cents a day.

After the study was completed, it showed that an increase in the cost of parking should be pushed up to a dollar per hour for short-term meter rates and 50 cents per hour for long term. This has people on the fence about whether or not the cost is too high.

There is also a suggestion of placing parking meters onto Main Street, where right now if you park there, you can do so for free for 2 hours. As of this time, no decisions have been made regarding the cost increase or the additions of these parking meters. Ultimately it will be up to either the city council or the Downtown Development Authority.

What are your thoughts on this? If costs go up, would you pay it?
