The Grand Junction Fire Department is offering parents an opportunity to have their child's car seat or booster seat inspected for free.

A car seat is the single best protection your child can have while riding in an auto, but only if it is installed properly and structurally sound.

Fire Department personnel can check your car seat to make sure it is installed properly including the correct fit of the straps that go around the child.

They will also answer questions about installation to ensure you understand how and why correct installation is key to your child's safety

While at the car seat event, fire department technicians can determine if the car seat is appropriate for the child who is riding in the seat, making sure it meets the legal size and weight requirements for that child.

They will also check your car seat for any recalls or safety defects that need to be addressed.

The car seat safety checks are Friday (April 14) from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Grand Junction Fire Station 3 located at 582 25 1/2 Road. Inspections take from 20-30 minutes.
