In today's current climate, a little good news goes a long way.

Recently, the Paonia Police Department and Delta County first responders got together to put on a mini-parade for a youngster's birthday in Paonia. Paonia Police, Paonia Fire, North Fork Ambulance, and Delta County Sheriff's Deputies were part of a procession to help celebrate the birthday.

Driving emergency vehicles through town is a simple thing and it's a relatively small thing, but it sure illustrates the simple truth that we don't fully appreciate a lot of things until they are suddenly missing from our lives.

Social distancing and the stay-at-home order have made it difficult to lead normal lives, and we are finding that we miss some of life's simple pleasures that we perhaps normally would take for granted - such as a child's birthday.

I know there are things that all of us are appreciating a lot more than we did a month ago. Maybe it's an evening out with friends, dinner out on a Friday night, going to the movies, seeing friends and worshipping at church on Sundays. And for kids, it's all the interaction they normally enjoy at school, and, of course, the chance to have a birthday party with friends.

Kudos to the Delta County first responders for bringing some light and joy to a young kid's day.
