Colorado has legalized marijuana, and questions have started to arise regarding second hand smoke. If you do not partake, can you still fail a drug test?Nida For Teens has found answers to some of the most common questions regarding marijuana use, and second hand smoke. The studies state that, if you go to a concert, or a house party, or even walking down a hallway, you can come into contact with second hand smoke. Does this mean you will fail a drug test?

Probably not. According to the survey, the  amount of THC exhaled by marijuana smokers is so low, it would take a lot of secondhand exposure to fail a drug test. The study placed non-smokers into a room with ventilation for 3 hours. A drug test followed.

They found that THC was present, but the amount was well below the level to needed to fail a drug test.

The study went on to answer the question of health effects of inhaling secondhand marijuana smoke, and what it means for someone who lives with a regular smoker.

The answer?? The jury is still out on this one.

When tested on rats,  secondhand marijuana smoke was found to do as much damage to the heart and blood vessels as secondhand tobacco smoke. However, this test has not been done on humans.

Additional chemicals in second hand smoke are also being tested to see what long term effects can occur.
