When is Colorado’s Birthday?
Our great state of Colorado will be turning 144 years old this summer, as it was officially named the 38th state on August 1st, 1876.
Colorado was sworn into the union by President Ulysses S. Grant 100 years after the Declaration of Independence was signed, earning it the title of "The Centennial State."
The state is named after the Colorado River, which Spanish settlers named because of its red tint that comes from the presence of ruddy silt in the water.
There are numerous ways that Coloradans can celebrate Colorado's birthday, as last year there were over 20 attractions at the History Colorado Center, free admission to the Molly Brown House Museum, and free admission to Colorado's State Parks.
Colorado is known for many things, including one of the most famous concert venues in the world, Red Rocks Amphitheater, iconic ski resorts including Vail and Aspen, and numerous other tourist attractions.
Out of towners come to Colorado for not just the above attractions, but we also have Garden of the Gods just outside of Colorado Springs, Cave of the Winds, and even though there's not much to see, the town of South Park has been made very famous because of the wildly popular TV show of the same name.
