One more major Northern Colorado event has been postponed due to rising COVID concerns: Thunder in the Rockies.

The massive bike rally has decided to cancel their 2021 event. Like several other events, the rising concern of COVID and, specifically, the Delta variant played a factor in the decision. Certain restrictions also fell into place because of the virus, leaving a supply shortage from certain vendors and partners.

Thunder in the Rockies included a bike ride in support of Realities for Children, a charity that sheds light on and sends support to at-risk children who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected.

Thunder in the Rockies is just one more event on a list of many that have been canceled due to public health concerns because of COVID. They decided to cancel their event before they could play a part in growing COVID numbers. However, in South Dakota, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally gained national attention.

In an article from CBS News, reports say South Dakota saw "a 456% increase of active cases from before the start of the rally to two weeks after". This data was reported from South Dakota's state department of health.

The presence of the virus in South Dakota seems to have trickled down to the cancellation of associated Colorado events as well. Colorado State volleyball canceled their game on Friday, Aug. 27 against South Dakota due to COVID issues within the South Dakota program.

The Bohemian Light Music Festival was another large event that was canceled with Black Pumas slated to headline the event.
