Would you like to jump into the frigid Colorado waters of Nottingham Lake this Saturday? You go ahead and have fun with that. The Polar Plunge is coming up this weekend!

Okay, so what is the "Polar Plunge"? Well, it's pretty much what it sounds like. You and your team jump into the toasty, inviting waters of Nottingham Lake near Avon, Colorado. Why would you want to do this? It's part of the Special Olympics Polar Plunge presented by Westerra Credit Union, raising funds and awareness for the mission and athletes of the Special Olympics.

Registration begins this Saturday (March 30, 2019) at 11 a.m. The "Plunge" begins at 1 p.m. You'll be pleased to know a trained dive team and EMTS are at the Plunge site for anyone needing assistance. It's open to all ages, but those under 18 will have to be accompanied by an adult.

What do you have to do to participate? You'll need the following:

  • All Plungers must raise a minimum of $75.
  • If Plunging as a team, the team must raise at least $75 per person.
  • Students and SOCO athletes are required to raise $50 per person.

You'll find it comforting to know the producers of this event will provide:

  • Heated changing tents
  • The hole is kept at a comfortable depth so that you don’t have to go under water unless you want to

This event is raising funds for a great cause, the Special Olympics. The event isn't exactly my cup of tea, or in this case, iced tea, but that's just me. This may very well be right up your alley.
