The Famous Cripple Creek Donkeys Have Been Set Free

Cripple Creek's famous donkeys have been set free. There are a dozen burros that were released and are now roaming around Cripple Creek freely until October.

The donkeys were brought to Cripple Creek in the 1890s to help carry mining equipment, according to KOAA.  The burros are set free every year to roam around the town during the warmer months.

Look at how stoked the burros are to be released from their winter pen. This is a long-standing tradition in Cripple Creek. A dozen donkeys are allowed to roam the town freely until October 15, according to KOAA.

Cripple Creek's donkeys are known for doing what they want when they want. The President of the Two Mile High Club, which is all about caring for Cripple Creek's famous burros, has a little advice about 'approved donkey treats.' If you do come across one of Cripple Creek's famous burros, be sure to give them healthy things like:

• Carrots
• Apples
• Celery

These burros also love bananas. The donkeys have been in Cripple Creek since the 1890s so they're pretty much a part of the town forever.
