A Silverthorne dentist has been arrested for distributing prescription drugs illegally.

The dentist, 42-year-old Bonifacio Guillena III was sentenced to three years in prison for possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.

According to officials, Guillena was issuing prescriptions for Xanax, Oxycotin, and Percocet illegally. According to a former employee, the dentist ran what could be considered a "pill mill" out of his office west of Denver.

Guillena had his license suspended in 2017 but had to finally relinquish it last year. He was originally sentenced to three years in community corrections and was even granted a furlough. He was, however, arrested and pleaded guilty to stalking north of Denver.

In addition to these charges, he had also been arrested for domestic violence and had been cheating his urinalysis as well.

Xanax is used primarily for people who suffer from anxiety, while Percocet and Oxycontin are prescribed primarily for pain. Oxycontin is an opioid-based medication and is highly addictive.
