There is a shower in the forecast for the Grand Junction area this weekend, but this shower has nothing to do with the weather.

The Kitten Season Has Arrived

The kitten season has arrived and that means it's time for the annual kitten shower at Roice-Hurst Humane Society. Over the next few months, Roice-Hurst expects to be caring for hundreds of kittens and they are going to need a lot of supplies. The kitten shower gives the public the opportunity to donate funds and supplies to help the animal shelter through this time.

Typically, the kitten season runs from spring to fall. It's a time when cats naturally produce, which creates an influx of kittens at animal shelters. Last year, Roice Hurst cared for about 300 kittens and mothers. The kittens have to be taken care of until they are ready to be adopted.

Foster Volunteers and Donations Are Needed

Foster volunteers and donors are a vital part of kitten season. Many of the kittens that come into the shelter will go into foster homes until they are adopted. Anna Stout, the CEO of Roice-Hurst says:

"The kitten shower allows us to collect a stockpile of crucial supplies so we're ready to care for kittens when they need us. We simply couldn't do this work without the incredible

support of our community of donors and foster volunteers."

When Is the Kitten Shower?

The kitten shower will take place on Saturday, April 2 at two locations. Donations can be brought to the shelter at 362 28 Road in Grand Junction from noon until 4, or at the Delta location, 720 W. 4th Street from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

You'll have the chance to tour the shelter, learn about the fostering program, and meet some adorable kittens.
