Rifle Mom Facing 54 Years in Prison For Daughter’s Meth Overdose

About a year ago three people were arrested for the death of a 5-year-old girl in Rifle. The little girl passed away after accidentally ingesting a mix of meth and alcohol from a water bottle.

On December 12, 2020, Rifle Police were notified that a child in need of immediate medical assistance was being taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. 5-year-old Sophia Larson was taken to the hospital four hours after she ingested the drugs/alcohol.

The girl's mom, Stephanie Alvarado, and her cousins were mixing meth with alcohol in a water bottle then smoking it. Sophia came out of her room for a drink and drank some of the drug/alcohol mix before anyone noticed.

The Rifle mom's cousins told her they'd seen other kids high on meth before and that she'd be fine. Sophia was bouncing off the walls for four hours then collapsed in the living room and then was taken to Grand River Hospital.

They were, unfortunately, unable to save Sophia, who passed away from a heart attack. Her dad didn't even know what was going on until after doctors declared her dead.

Stephanie Alvarado has since been charged with first-degree murder and is facing 54 years in prison. According to KJCT 8, Sophia's father doesn't feel sorry for Stephanie and hopes she gets the maximum punishment possible. He also said that he feels like 'that's the only way that it's fair considering the fact that my daughter lost her entire life.'
