Peaceful Colorado Retreat Hidden Near the Amazing Powderhorn Wilderness
While there are lots of places to enjoy ice fishing in Colorado, when it warms up a bit, how about an adventure to one of the state's best remote fishing areas? You'll also find 45 miles of rarely visited trails, including one of the most bragged about in the state.
Exploring Colorado's Powderhorn Wilderness Area
The Powderhorn Wilderness area dates back to the mid-1800s. Before that time the Spanish at Ute Indians used many trails in this area to cross the tundra en route to places like the Uncompahgre Valley or the Cochetopa Pass.
Located in the far northern fringe of the San Juan Mountains, the plateau and trail areas in the Powderhorn Wilderness Area offer views of the San Juan, Elk, and Sawatch mountain ranges. It's a really beautiful place to see.
Hiking and Fishing Near Powderhorn Colorado
Some of the first Coloradans to settle in this area did so along the Cebolla Creek Valley and the headwaters of Cebolla Creek. To this day, it is still one of the best out-of-the-way fishing destinations in Colorado.
