Colorado Governor Jared Polis is planning on issuing a statewide mask mandate today, according to Colorado Politics.

The mandate comes as positive cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) have been on the rise ever since the state began slowly opening back up following the stay-at-home and safer-at-home orders.

Governor Polis had previously said that he wasn't planning on enacting a statewide order requiring masks, as he noted that it would be difficult to enforce. However, some Colorado counties are already enforcing the mandate, and it looks like we may all need to follow suit.

This news is especially shocking for residents of Mesa County because of the fact that we've had so few cases and have been practicing social distancing and keeping everything clean and sanitized.

In addition, this brings up a series of questions. We're finally allowed to have concerts again, granted on a much smaller scale, but is this going to affect our local music scene? Will bands not be able to play live anymore because the singers are going to be legally forced to wear masks?

Also, how are they planning on enforcing it? Are the police going to be tasked to ticket anyone they see not wearing a mask?

Luckily, because Mesa County has had so few cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) we were allowed a variance on Polis' last order to once again shut down bars across the state.

The governor is planning to hold a press conference later today to make the official announcement, and we will keep you updated.

UPDATE 1:56 pm: The mandate will go in to effect at midnight, July 17th.
