National Police Week (May 15 through 21) is a way to remember fallen officers, including Mesa County Sheriff's Deputy Derek Geer, and others who put their lives on the line every day.

National Police Week starts on May 15 with Peace Officers Memorial Day. President Barack Obama issued a national Proclamation expressing the gratitude of the American public and recognizing those who work to keep citizens across the country safe.

The Mesa County Commissioners have issued a similar Proclamation on behalf of local residents.

Flags at both the Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff's Office will be flown at half-staff for the week.

There are a number of activities scheduled for the week. Those activities include;

  • Tuesday (May 17) - Coffee With a Cop at Traders Coffee on Patterson Road 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday - Fruita City Council Police Week Proclamation 7:00 p.m. at Fruita Civic Center.
