Why did the elk cross the road? Because the police took on the role of crossing guards to make it safe for them to do so.

That's what happened recently in Estes Park. A large herd of elk was wanting to cross the road to get to the other side. So, to make it safe for both the elk and motorists, law enforcement officers stopped traffic.

For those of you who really know your elk, you'll see in the video somewhere around 70 bulls (old and young), cows, calves and maybe even a few spikes. They're moving pretty quickly so forgive me for a mistake or two.

Hunters will also see a good representation of what they hope will be filling the freezer before the big game season is over.

For everyone else, just think of this as one big extended fall family get together complete with a walk in the woods as the snow gently falls to the ground.
