PETA Craves a Vegan Restaurant in Jeffery Dahmer’s Old House

Imagine dining at a home that had been converted into a cozy vegan restaurant. This might be a great experience until you learned the house was the site where authorities say serial killer and cannibal Jeffery Dahmer killed and dismembered his first victim. PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has suggested a meat-free restaurant would be a great fit for the property.

According to a story in the Akron Beacon Journal, the real estate agent who has the listing received a letter from PETA president, Ingrid E. Newkirk, inquiring about the property and suggested the house be converted into a vegan restaurant.

In the letter, Newkirk suggested a name for the restaurant, 'Eat for Life: Home Cooking.' Menu items would include chipotle barbecue tofu kebabs and vegan creamy chicken casserole, made from mock chicken and dairy-free sour cream.

Richard Lubinski, the real estate agent handling the listing says,

I think it’s great. If they (PETA) want to buy it and repurpose it, that’s phenomenal.”

While he didn't completely reject PETA's plan, Bill Funk, the Bath Township, Ohio zoning inspector and administrator, says changing the zoning from residential to commercial would be difficult. Plus, the house and lot are poorly suited for a restaurant.

The over 2,100 square foot house has been on and off the market for a couple of years and is currently listed for $295,000 in case you're interested in owning the infamous and yet remarkably beautiful house and 1.5 acre lot it sits on.

In a related story, the Akron Beacon Journal reports PETA has dropped it's interest in purchasing the house and turning it into an eatery. Some, including the real estate agency trying to sell the home, suspect the organization's interest in the property was nothing more than a publicity stunt.
