Parts of Rocky Mountain National Park Close Due to Snow Monday Morning

According to the National Park Service, on Monday morning, portions of Rocky Mountain National Park had closed due to severe winter weather conditions.

While it may be a cooler, but otherwise fair day in the Fort Collins area, up in Rocky Mountain National Park, it's certainly looking more wintery. At 8 a.m., the park's Twitter account reported that some of Trail Ridge Road and all of Old Fall River Road had closed, citing 'winter weather conditions including drifting snow and ice.'

At 8:45 a.m., the park service added that Trail Ridge Road had temporarily closed about seven miles from the park entrance, due to two-to-three-foot snowdrifts. Rocky Mountain National Park said that it will reopen when the weather permits.

Just before 6 a.m., Thomas Mangan of Erie shared a photo of Trail Ridge Road's conditions (below), adding that it was just 29 degrees, and very windy.

Over the weekend, Walden, which is north of Rocky Mountain National Park, was the coldest place in the contiguous United States, at just 20 degrees. At the same time, the Front Range, including the Fort Collins area, had record high temps in the mid-90s.
