Palisade Gets Grant to Improve Road Safety

The Town of Palisade has received yet another grant to make safety improvements along Highway 6.

The volume of vehicles traveling the section of Highway 6 into and out of Palisade has made it even more necessary for sidewalks and bike lanes to keep children and others using the roadway safe.

The first grant received by the town, $765,000, came from the Multimodal Options Fund which is a state-based fund set aside for projects such as the one in Palisade. This new grant of $1 million comes from the TAP grant (Transportation Alternatives Program), another Colorado program, will continue to increase sidewalks and bicycle paths along the south side of the highway.

The need is obvious, with more use of the roadway in the area by bicyclists and pedestrians. In the last year, there have been three incidents involving vehicles and pedestrians, and it is hoped that these new projects will make the road safer for all.

Palisade officials are hopeful the construction can begin in the fall or possibly winter of 2020.
