Our law enforcement officials work hard every day to protect us. There is a law I am glad to see that protects our men and women of law enforcement.

People throughout the Grand Valley drive around every day. It is something that we do. But some people as they drive are putting our law enforcement officials at risk.

When driving, and we see an emergency vehicle on the side of the road, what should you do? You think this would be a very easy answer. Move over, right? You would be surprised how many people will not change lanes, or even slow down when they pass by. This endangers lives.

There have been times that law enforcement has actually been hit by passing cars that do not move over or slow down. That is not cool.

According to KKCO, the Move Over Law was put into law in 2005, across all 50 states. This law is there to protect and get drivers to slow down and or merge to another lane while passing. The problem is, some are ignoring the law. Here in the state of Colorado, if you do not yield or slow down as you pass a law enforcement or emergency vehicle, you could be fined $179  and get a whopping four points onto your drivers license.

I am not saying all people are bad drivers. What I am saying is, sometimes we have to be reminded of things that we may have forgotten to protect those around us. So slow down and move over.
