This could be a fantastic way for some local graduates to start the next chapter of their lives.

Remembering Those Days

Most of us can remember that exciting time in our lives when we were graduating from high school. After 13 consecutive years of school, we were so happy to finally be finished with sitting in a classroom five days a week, month after month, year after year. We were excited about our next steps in life - getting a college education, having a career, and starting a family.

Of course, soon after graduation, it wouldn't be long until we realized the grass wasn't necessarily greener on the other side of the fence.  In my case, I got married halfway through college and worked three part-time jobs while going to school to make ends meet. It was definitely an adventure and it certainly wasn't easy, but it made me grow up real fast and learn responsibility. I am thankful for that.

Shopping Spree Contest

As exciting as it may be to graduate from high school or college, it can be a stressful time as well, and that's why what's happening at Grand Junction's Mesa Mall is really cool.

Mesa Mall's parent company, Washington Prime Group is conducting a national contest called #ScholarSpree and giving away a total of $10,000 to 13 lucky graduates. The prizes range from $500 to $3000 to spend at any WPG town center in the country. The idea of the contest is to help graduates get off on the right foot after graduation and help them prepare for that next step.

Showing the Love

Caitlyn Love, the marketing director at Mesa Mall says the class of 2021 has had a challenging year and the mall is proud to show them some love by giving them a chance to win a shopping spree. Love says it's "one of the many ways that Mesa Mall continues to show our support for the community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond."

High School and college graduates can enter the contest on the #ScholarSpree website and select Mesa Mall. Bonus entries are available through different actions on social media like tagging friends in #ScholarSpree posts or following Mesa Mall's social media accounts. The contest runs until June 7.

A shopping spree would be a nice start to the next chapter in a graduate's life.  I know if I were a graduate I'd be totally stoked about getting some new clothes for my wardrobe as I take the next step into adulthood. It might even be some furnishings for my new apartment.

Good luck to all of our graduates in the future, and we hope this national contest will produce some local winners.
