An unidentified man jumped to his death yesterday (Sept. 4) from the Royal Gorge Bridge.

Sheriff's deputies were sent to the bridge at 2:46 p.m. from reports there was a man jumping from the bridge. Surveillance footage pulled by the deputies confirmed what several witnesses had reported.

A short time later authorities received a report from a rafter on the Arkansas River that they saw what they thought may have been human remains.

As this is an ongoing and active investigation, authorities are saying little else about the identity of the man who jumped, what his reasons were and what fallout there may be from this unfortunate event.

The bridge, which was opened in 1929 and is the highest suspension bridge in the US last saw a jumper in 2016. A story from 2018 noted those remains had not been found.

We will update this story as information is released and becomes available.
