Interstate 70 through Glenwood Canyon was slated to be closed for parts of two days last week, but that closure has been rescheduled for August 10 and 11.

Last month's planned work had to be postponed due to "downward wind drafts and challenges with rotor wash against the steep slope."

The interstate is scheduled to be closed  in both directions from 9:00AM until 3:30PM Wednesday and Thursday for rockfall mitigation and helicopter work.

They are bringing in a larger helicopter to get 13 one thousand pound posts to the site and insert them in designated slots. Ultimately, the posts willI  support protective fencing to help prevent future rockfalls.

Motorists should plan their travel through Glenwood Canyon prior to 9AM or after 3:30PM. Otherwise, the standard detours will be in place

.Alternate routes: Hwy 82 south of Glenwood Springs over Independence Pass to US 24 to Hwy 91 to I-70, or US 40 over Berthoud Pass to Hwy 13 at Craig to I-70 or Hwy 9 at Silverthorne to US 40 at Kremmling to Hwy 13 at Craig to I-70, Highway 50 out of Grand Junction.

According to the CDOT the bike path will be open for recreational use, although flaggers will be on hand to do some traffic control near the rockfall site.
