I-70 in Glenwood Canyon should fully reopen by Thanksgiving according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

As of 7:05 a.m. this morning, August 14, 2021, I-70 in Glenwood Canyon has one lane open in both directions. Glenwood Canyon has been closed since massive mudslides occurred in the canyon. The second mudslide occurred just a few days after the first one in late June.

Mile marker 116 in Glenwood Springs to 133 in Dotsero is now open, which means you can finally drive through Glenwood Canyon. There are two lanes open for the majority of the canyon, but in sections of both east and westbound lanes there is only one lane is open.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, both lanes in each direction in Glenwood Canyon should be open by Thanksgiving. Their goal is to get I-70 in Glenwood Canyon fully reopened by Thanksgiving, which is Governor Jared Polis's goal.

The Colorado Department of Transportation is happy to have Glenwood Canyon reopened and wants to make sure everyone adheres to the speed limit and is on the lookout for possible dust in the canyon.

The new speed limit is 35 mph on I-70 through Glenwood Canyon. CDOT recommends motorcyclists use extra caution while driving in the canyon due to possible remaining debris on the highway.

We're so happy to be able to drive through Glenwood Canyon again and not take one of the over six-hour-long detours to get to Denver. We appreciate all of CDOT's hard work to get Glenwood Canyon reopened again and their continued effort to get it fully reopened by Thanksgiving.
