The Hanging Lake Reservation System is set to launch April 1st.

Through the end of April to can access the Hanging Lake trailhead. After that, the only way there is from the Hanging Lake Welcome Center where you'll catch a shuttle that will deliver you to the trailhead and back. Either way, from now on you'll need a permit to access the site.

Anyone planning to visit after May 1st will be required to make a reservation and acquire a permit. They are $12 during the 'Peak Season' May 1st - October 31 and $10 through April 30th. If you're part of a group of 20 or more you'll need to call the Hanging Lake information line to make a reservation. So we're clear, anyone wanting to visit this 'Natural National Landmark' just east of Glenwood Springs inside Glenwood Canyon will need to purchase a permit online or by calling 970-384-6309. You can get yours by clicking HERE starting April 1. Reservations can be made in-person at the Hanging Lake Welcome Center located, 110 Wulfsohn Road in Glenwood Springs starting May 1st.

The new shuttle service leaves from the Hanging Lake Welcome Center and drops visitors at the Hanging Lake trailhead. Visitors should plan for about three hours of hiking and recreation between your drop off and pick up.

Rember while visiting Hanging Lake or any of Colorado's natural wonders to "Leave No Trace.' Please pack out everything you carry in.

Last fall, The US Forest Service announced the new reservation and permit policy. The plan was put in place to limit the number of visitors and cut down on overcrowding at the site. The new limit is 615 persons per day. According to The Forest Service, the number of visitors was closer to 1,000 per day.
