Rumors shared on social media yesterday stated Hanging Lake in Glenwood Springs was destroyed by the fire. Luckily, the Grizzly Creek Fire spared the popular tourist attraction.

9 News reported yesterday (Aug. 14) that a mapping expert said Hanging Lake was in the Grizzly Creek Fire boundaries, saying it was possible the popular location could have been damaged.

When asked about the possible damage, a representative of the White River National Park said there was no way to tell unless they could get an aerial shot. Hiking to the location was too dangerous due to fire activity.

They were able to get an aerial shot of the Hanging Lake location and confirmed, happily, that the attraction was untouched by the fire -- for now.

The Hanging Lake Fire is approaching 20,000 acres with 0% containment. I-70 remains closed in both directions through Glenwood Canyon, and Governor Polis says it could be more than two to three days before looking at opening the interstate.
