Did you know August is "National Eat Dessert First Month"? Neither did I. How do you celebrate? Better yet, where's the best place in Grand Junction to celebrate?

According to Live Journal, August represents "...31 blissful days during the year when the sugar on all the grocery store shelves suddenly vanish and national happiness levels skyrocket." Each day in August has its own dessert theme. So, with that in mind, where do we go?

Daily Theme

Using today, August 4, as an example, we should all be celebrating "National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day." Tomorrow, August 5, is "National Ice Cream Sundae Day." Here are a few more noteworthy mentions for the month of August:

  • August 7 - National Raspberries & Cream Day
  • August 11 - National Raspberry Bombe Day
  • August 21 - National Spumoni Day
  • August 23 - National Spongecake Day
  • August 27 - National Pots de Creme Day
  • August 30 - National Marshmallow Toasting Day

Junction, We Have a Problem

When was the last time you went to a Grand Junction restaurant and spotted Pots de Creme on the dessert menu? I've never heard of some dishes listed on the August dessert list.

Time to Get Creative

With a little effort and a ton of imagination, you could easily MacGyver yourself most of these dessert options. You'll have to improvise, but with a little ice cream, chocolate, assorted fruits, and a few additional components, you can probably whip something up.

We Can't Be Driving All Over the Valley

I just filled up my little SUV and it cost me the better part of a day's pay. With that, I don't want to have to drive all over the valley trying to whip up these ingredients. There has to be someplace in town where one can make the most of this holiday.

Get Pointed in the Right Direction

Where in Grand Junction will you find a restaurant or food venue offering a wide assortment of dessert options? This may represent an arena where the big buffets have an advantage over the mom-and-pop joints.

Where can you make dessert the "main course"? Vote for the best place in the valley. We're already four days into the month, so it's time to get the ball rolling. If I missed a place, please write it in, and I'll add it to the official list.
