I set myself out on a task this weekend to see if I could find out how people in Grand Junction are successful in what they do, and how they achieved it.

I began my trek downtown and simply looked for people who were in suits, or someone who I perceived as successful. I stopped five people and asked them the following question.

What do you do to start your day, that you think makes you a successful person? I picked one answer from each person and have compiled them into my top five.

  1. Take Time To Breathe in the “Good” Of The Day. This is a process of letting the bad happenings within the office go, and only focus on the good or more positive ways to make your day better.
  2. “Read Your Co-Workers”- You will find that a strong manager will always take a moment of the day to walk around and talk with the staff to get a feeling to make sure they are active and engaged. Some managers can simply “look” at employees and are able to gauge this.
  3. Always have your space you work in “Organized”. Starting your day off not being able to find anything is not a good way to put your best foot forward. Being organized and prepared for the tasks of the day will actually save you time and stress
  4. Knowing your schedule and “Prioritize”. This will ensure that you are spending your day on items that need to be handled, and also will keep your desk from piling up with troubles later in your week.
  5. Avoid any and all distractions. This may be harder than it looks. The idea is, that you should get all of your distractions limited to the first few minutes of your day. These kinds of things could be anything from email to someone standing at your office door being chatty. Another horrible distraction is texts, try to limit the time you text back and forth to friends and co-workers.
