Spring is here and that means it's time to clean up Grand Junction and get it looking all spiffy for the summer.

What is the Grand Junction Spring Clean-up?

Grand Junction's spring cleanup is a two-week intensive effort that involves city crews picking up trash, garbage, and unwanted items off the street -- and hauling them off free of charge. Last year, 10 city crews worked more than 4,000 hours to clean up Grand Junction, collecting more than 2,200  tons of trash in more than 400  loads.

When Is Grand Junction Spring Clean-up Happening?

This year's spring clean-up in Grand Junction will again be held in two phases. For residents north of North Avenue pick-up starts on April 4 at 7:00 a.m, and for residents south of North Avenue, including areas of Orchard Mesa and the Redlands, clean-up will start on April 11. Here's a map from the city of Grand Junction showing pick-up areas. Keep in mind the fact that just because you are a resident of Grand Junction doesn't mean you are necessarily in a clean-up area.

Grand Junction City Clean Up: Things to Know

Here are some other things to know if you want to participate in the city-wide cleanup.

  • Items you want to get rid of should be in one pile in the street, up against the gutter in from of your house. If you don't have on-street parking at your house,  you will be notified of where to put your trash.
  • The trash pick-up is free, unless your pile is bigger than one dump truckload. In that case, you'll be charged $150 for each extra load.
  • Trash should be placed in front of your house and not on private property, lawns, landscaped areas, sidewalks, or driveways.
  • In order to minimize the possibility of damage to private property, piles should be kept at least 3 feet away from buildings, fences, mailboxes, and cars. You'll also want to be sure to keep your pile away from things you don't want to be removed such as bicycles, trash containers, and lawn ornaments.
  • Are your items recyclable or reusable? If so, you might consider donating them to a charitable organization.
