Grand Junction Hiring Dispatchers

The City of Grand Junction is looking to fill seven positions.

Start the New Year with a new job. The City of Grand Junction is planning to expand it's public safety efforts in 2019. Pulling that off will require the addition of police officers and firefighters on the streets. Before the safety personnel is added, the city plans to increase the number of dispatchers. A proposed spring sales tax increase would fund the effort. The communication center plans to hire seven dispatchers immediately. Once the possible public safety tax increase is approved, the city hopes to hire eight more.

"As our user agencies add additional officers or deputies, the need for dispatchers is evident as well,” says Sarah Arrants, administrative supervisor at the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center. The jobs pay from $18.73 to $20.67 an hour. The city plans to make these dispatchers specialized positions as well. What that means is that each would focus on fire or police services instead of dispatching for both. "That will make the training shorter and it will make the dispatchers a better dispatcher,” Arrants said. “They will know who's on the other end of the radio better, they will be more up to date with our policies and procedures for that agency."

The city is already taking applications for this summer's seasonal positions as well. There are adult softball scorekeeper and umpire positions, lifeguard, summer camp leaders, youth activities, and other summer jobs available.
