Grand Junction Bike Park Nearing Completion
Just after opening up the river park at Las Colonias Park, Grand Junction will soon have another fun outdoor attraction - a bike park.
The Dos Rios Bike Playground is currently under construction, but the plan is to open the park up in roughly a week on Memorial Day. The park will be located near the 5th Street bridge and the Riverside community, not far from Las Colonias Amphitheater.
When all is said and done, the project will have cost roughly $120,000, a bill that was generously donated by the Colorado Health Foundation.
With a price tag that high, it's easy to assume that the park will be quite impressive, and according to the director of Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Ken Sherbenou, it will. Sherbenou had this to say about the park:
“The two adjacent intermediate lines give our riders an option coming off that ramp to be able to have more speed to either hop up on a tabletop or hit a kicker, a jump, and actually get some air, which will be cool to see there from Riverside Parkway.”
The ramps that Sherbenou speaks of are being constructed by American Ramp Company Inc., a company based out of Joplin Missouri that prides itself as being "skater owned and operated."
Once completed, the park will have features available for all skill levels from beginner to intermediate, with a total of 23 separate features.
However, because the 'safer-at-home' order is still in effect, the park will not have a grand opening, and riders are still encouraged to practice social distancing while enjoying the park.
