Governor John Hickenlooper will be visiting the Grand Valley this weekend to recognize and support outdoor recreation in Western Colorado.

In addition to public meetings meetings with local officials and the public on Sunday (May 15) in Palisade, Grand Junction and Fruita, the Governor plans to tour the valley between meetings via bicycle.

Governor Hickenlooper will be accompanied by delegates from the Colorado Outdoor Recreation Industry Office.

Kristi Pollard, Executive director of the Grand Junction Economic Partnership says,

“We are proud to have the Governor and his team here, and to be able to show them first-hand the strength of our outdoor recreation industry. It is one of the priority industries for GJEP’s business recruitment efforts, and one that has a growing impact on both our local and statewide economy.”

According to the Grand Junction Economic Partnership and the Outdoor Recreation Coalition of the Grand Valley, the outdoor recreation industry in the state contributes almost a billion dollars in tax revenue to Colorado with $300 million of that in Mesa County.
