Four Better Ways to Get Rid of Unwanted Furniture in Grand Junction

Most people have some common sense, but for those that don't, the message is to you - don't do this! Grand Junction is not a junk yard. Here're four better ways to get rid of unwanted furniture.

I stumbled across this well-worn sofa on the side of the road, with a sign that said 'FREE'.

An individual obviously had set it on the side of a city street thinking, perhaps, they would do someone a favor by offering this splendid piece of furniture at a really great price. Good intentions, perhaps, but a bad method.

Junk alongside the road is just that-- junk. Even if it's not  "junk" - that's what it looks like - and it's not attractive. Placing unwanted furniture and other merchandise  alongside the road is not cool-- unless it happens to come during the city's annual spring cleanup.

There are several better options for getting rid of unwanted furniture.

• Haul it to the Mesa County Landfill, pay the $5 fee, and put it where it belongs. If you don't have a truck, can't borrow one, and can't find anyone to do it for you, contact your trash service. Most services will pick up unwanted furniture at the curb, for an additional charge.
• Put an ad in the newspaper or on Craigslist announcing the free item. Craigslist is free, and you can provide pictures of your item which will help people decide if they want the item.
• Have a garage sale - or find a friend that is having one and ask them if you can include your item. Of course, if you can haul stuff  to their house, you might as well haul it to the dump.
• Donate it to the Goodwill or Salvation Army

Let's keep our community looking as good as possible, and properly dispose of unwanted furniture, TVs, and appliances. Don't turn our city streets into a junk yard!
