It's not often that you hear about the death penalty anymore, as most crimes seem to often give life in prison. But there are still some extremely violent or horrific crimes that come with the sentence of death. According to The Denver Channel, the U.S. government moved forward with their first execution of a woman in 67 years when Lisa Montgomery was put to death this morning.

Montgomery was originally from Kansas but was sentenced to death after taking the life of a 23-year-old mother to be in Missouri (Bobbie-Jo Stinnett) then the disgusting action of cutting the baby from her womb. Lisa Montgomery was pronounced dead at 1:31 a.m after receiving a lethal injection at a prison in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Montgomery is only the 11th prisoner who has been executed since July when President Trump made federal executions legal again, it had been 17 years since the last one took place.

It is widely known that President-Elect Biden is not a fan of the death penalty, and it will not be shocking to see him take office and halt all federal executions moving forward. But only time will tell if that in fact takes place.

There were two other executions set to take place this week but both have been stopped for now due to the inmates testing positive for COVID-19. No word on when or if those executions will move forward before Biden takes office and a potential rule change is implemented. We will keep you in the know if we do hear of any changes being made.
