Downtown Grand Junction Restaurants Can Expand Outdoor Seating

It's no secret that 2020 has been devastating for Grand Junction restaurants but here is a little good news.

A government grant is now available that will help downtown Grand Junction restaurants expand their outdoor seating capacity. Even though local restaurants have been open for several months now, limited capacities have hampered recovery efforts.

One avenue that has been made available to restaurants across the state has been an increase in outdoor dining spaces to compensate for indoor seating restrictions. Now, some financial help is available to downtown restaurants to assist them in outdoor expansion.

The Colorado Department of Transportation has awarded a $47,000 grant to the Downtown Grand Junction Business Improvement District. The funds are intended to help downtown restaurants expand their outdoor patios to sidewalks and even parking spaces. The city and downtown Grand Junction have partnered together to buy base units, barrier fencing, and canopies that can be temporarily installed throughout downtown to create "dining parklets."

Restaurants interested in expanding will need to fill out an application to apply for funds.

Unfortunately, the outdoor dining season is nearing the end in Grand Junction, though we still have the potential for a lot of pleasant weather in October. Still, this news means some downtown restaurants have the opportunity to expand their capacity and maybe that will help them get through this difficult time.
