Coronavirus Update: Four Coloradans Tested Negative, Four Are Pending
The coronavirus is not in Colorado (knock on wood).
According to the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, the four Coloradans who have been tested for the coronavirus (2019-nCOV) so far have all gotten negative results.
Four more Coloradans are awaiting either testing or results from the CDC.
Health officials say the risk of getting the virus is currently low, unless you have recently traveled to China or come into contact with someone who has it.
If you do fit the above descriptions, be aware of the following symptoms: fever, cough, and shortness of breath.
Those who are experiencing symptoms are asked to go to a doctor, hospital, or urgent care before reporting to an emergency room.
Little is known about this strain of the virus, but officials confirmed it can cause pneumonia and that it is likely to spread through coughing, sneezing, or close personal contact.
The CDC is working with health organizations across the state to ensure a strong and unified response plan, which includes treatment and quarantine protocols.
On a smaller scale, officials recommend the following practices for at-home prevention:
- Wash your hands frequently.
- Cover your nose and mouth when coughing/sneezing.
- Avoid contact with anyone showing cold or flu-like symptoms.
- Stay home if you feel sick.
- Get your flu shot.
Time to invest in some hand soap, because you're going to need it (although, I really hope you already have some).
