A tragic event unfolded this past Thursday, January 14th at a popular Colorado ski resort as a man, unfortunately, lost his life while on the slopes.

The man, who has yet to be identified, was allegedly in his 50s and skiing at Eldora Mountain Ski Resort, which is located in Boulder County near Nederland. Although it would appear that the identity is known by authorities, it would seem that the man's next of kin have yet to be notified.

An otherwise enjoyable ski outing turned tragic when, according to a statement released by the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, the man fell down a steep bit of terrain and lost control.

Boulder County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman had this to say about the event after it occurred on Thursday:

Just before noon today, the Boulder County Communications Center received a call of a male who had sustained serious injuries in a skiing accident at the Eldora Mountain Ski Resort. Witnesses observed the skier fall and slide down the Corona Run at a high rate of speed, then strike a tree.

To make matters worse, because of "gusting high winds" in the area, the medical helicopter that was dispatched to rescue the man was unable to land right away. The helicopter made additional attempts to rescue the man, but again, because of the high winds, was yet again unable to land and had to leave to refuel.

The man was finally reached by ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was unfortunately pronounced dead.
