A Grand Junction burger joint is hosting a fundraising drive for MDA. Last year, a strange cast of characters came by to donate. It's good to see Mr. Spock supports the MDA. Unfortunately, those characters have yet to appear this year.

You've seen these before - you donate $1 to MDA, and you get a certificate. This year's campaign just got underway at the Burger King across the street from the Mesa County Sheriff's Department.

When you donate your dollar, you get to sign your name, or any name for that matter, on the "thank you" certificate. That certificate is then put on display in the store. Take a look at the gallery above for some of the wackos, I mean donors, who contributed last year. I signed mine "Mr. Spock."

As of this morning (August 9, 2018), they've sold roughly 300 of these certificates. Unlike past years, though, no one, and I mean no one, is putting down silly names. As a matter of fact, most people aren't filling out names at all.

Look at the photo below. These are the certificates on display at the Burger King at 1st and White. I only see one or two with a name on it. That's a ton of missed opportunities.

Let's make this year's lineup as colorful as past years'. The photos above are examples from 2016. For the record, the call to get strange names is my doing, not theirs. My agenda is in no way endorsed by the Home of the Whopper. I really enjoyed seeing the funny names. Obviously, you can sign your name, your family's, or even the name of your workplace. Then again, you can sign it Luke Skywalker.

Spock has donated. Come on, Captain Kirk, we know you're out there. Big Foot, it's your turn at bat. Speaking of bats, perhaps Batman would care to donate.
