Cool Art: 2022 Colorado Snow Sculpting Championship in Berthoud [Photos]
Berthoud held the annual Snow Sculpting Championship that had been postponed from December during 'Snowfest.'
Snow was made, snow was brought in, snow was packed tight, snow was crafted into art. The 2022 Colorado Snow Sculpting Championship took place the week of January 10, 2022, at Berthoud's Fickel Park.
More than a half-dozen teams competed in the
The teams started work on January 12, 2022, and had to be finished by 10 a.m. on January 15, 2022, when voting began. Votes were cast by putting a dollar into a given team's bucket; those votes were tabulated later that evening.
It's amazing to see what (about) 18 dump truck loads of snow can be turned into, in just a few short days. I'm sure that there is a lot of pre-planning that has to take place: Designing the piece of art they want to create, then planning the logistics of getting it done.
Though I missed the big event day on Saturday, January 15, I did head out to Fickel Park on Sunday to get photos of the snow sculptures. There were many others out to get a look at what the teams had crafted. All but one still stood (I'm not sure what happened to the one that was gone,) and one was still getting a little work done to it that day.
Hats off to all the competitors. Let's take a look at their work.
Here's the one photo that I was not able to get.
