Rihanna Slams Snapchat for Running Ad Asking Users if They’d Rather ‘Slap Rihanna or Punch Chris Brown’

Rihanna isn’t letting Snapchat slide after the failing social media app ran a massively tone deaf advertisement for a game making light of domestic violence.

On Thursday (March 15), the pop star shared a statement in her Instagram Story in response to the tasteless ad.

“Now Snapchat, I know you already know you ain’t my fav app out there! But I’m just trying to figure out what the point was with this mess! I’d love to call it ignorance, but I know you ain’t that dumb,” she wrote, adding that the company had “spent money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to [domestic violence] victims.”

“This isn’t about my personal feelings, ’cause I don’t have much of them,” she continued, “but all the woman, children and men that have been victims of [domestic violence] in the past and especially the ones who haven’t made it out yet…you let us down!”

“Shame on you. Throw the whole app-oligy away,” she concluded. See below:

Earlier this month, Snapchat published an advertisement for a game app called “Would You Rather?,” which asked users if they would rather “slap Rihanna or punch Chris Brown”—a baffling query that seemed to reference Brown’s 2009 assault on the “Love on the Brain” singer while they were dating.

The advertisement was quickly pulled, and Snapchat told BBC’s Newsbeat that the “advert was reviewed and approved in error, as it violates our advertising guidelines.”

“We immediately removed the ad last weekend, once we became aware. We are sorry that this happened,” the company added.

However, the damage had already been done, with anti-domestic violence activists and celebrities like Chelsea Clinton condemning the company.
