Oh Xbox Entertainment Studios, we hardly knew ye.

Variety reports that the remnants of Xbox Entertainment Studios has been fully disbanded in a broad series of layoffs affecting more than 3,000 across Microsoft. Xbox Entertainment Studios chief Nancy Tellem and Executive Vice President Jordan Levin were included with yesterday's final series of layoffs. This branch of Xbox intended to produce original TV content, but was cancelled this past July when Microsoft announced it would be closing XES down and laying off 18,000 employees across all of its branches.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella claimed that his company needs to focus on its core objectives (mainly the technology, software and gaming businesses), which led to the closing of Xbox Entertainment Studios because it was an attempt for Xbox to expand into unfamiliar territory -- original video content and programming. With the Xbox One's sales continuously trailing behind the PlayStation 4, Nadella may have made the right decision.
