This year I will be 11 years old. Sounds strange but it is true. I am not quite a teenager yet, but I am working on it. I am officially a Leap Year Baby!

There are about 187,000 people in the US and 4 million people in the world who were born on Leap Day. I am one of those lucky individuals. The hardest part to decide on the off years is wheather I celebrate on February 28th or March 1st. I normally lean to the 28th...why wait for it, right?

Leap year birthdays are special. A leap year has 366 days, according to 11 Points rather than a normal year that only has 365. There is an extra day on the calendar for February, instead of 28 days, there is 29. Beyond that, what makes a leap year special?

Believe it or not, there is a reason for leap years. They keep our modern day calendar in alignment with the revolutions of the Earth around the Sun. So if you are born on this day, you feel special now don't you?

Grand Junction celebrates leap year with some special people. Are you one of them?

Local Celebrities include:

Athena Johnson and Dee Ann Harper!

A Roman general by the name of Julius Caesar introduced leap years in the Roman empire about 2000 years ago. His calendar only had 1 rule. any year evenly divisible by 4 would be a leap year. This led to way too many leap years, but didn't get corrected until the introduction of the Gregorian calendar more than 1500 years later

Some famous people who celebrate on this leap day along with us are:

  • Ja Rule -1972
  • Antonia Sabato Jr.-1972
