Have you seen the City of Grand Junction land development sign on G Road just west of 26 Road? What's going on?

For some reason, these really catch my attention. I spotted the sign over the weekend and couldn't help but ask. After a quick call to the city of GJ, things became clear.

After speaking with a representative for the city, it was learned an application for a rezoning and the establishment of a subdivision had been submitted. At the time of the phone call, today, December 16, at roughly 2:30 p.m., the application was on hold. Apparently, a code violation of some kind exists.

Subdivision can mean a number of things. For the last 18 1/2 years, I've lived in a subdivision consisting of precisely seven houses, with the entire subdivision occupying fewer than two acres. When it comes to the proposed subdivision on G Road, a rearrangement of plot lines, bringing together four parcels, will result in an area of roughly 23 acres.

So, there you go. The application isn't for a new shopping mall, hospital, landfill, or concert venue. If the application goes through, Grand Junction may soon have another subdivision.

Is it just me, or can you remember a time when G Road was to "H" and gone? We used to consider that to be the boonies. Nowadays, G Road has become something of a major corridor. That's how I first saw the sign - making the drive from Horizon to a business off of 25 Road.

Keep your eyes open for potential changes on G Road. Again, the application is on hold as of this time. Then again, every time I drive through this town I see something new. Construction is popping up everywhere, in the blink of an eye. This development may soon be Grand Junction's premier place to live.
